In 1997, at the age of 15, Jake LePage (now Sinister) started up his first band, The Delinquent Janitors, with his neighbor, Owen Drahkele, and a friend from school, Jared Long. This garage-punk band recorded one EP titled "Tied Up in My Closet".
In 1998 Long was asked to join another band, Booze Ticket, which he did, leaving the Janitors drummer less. Jake and Owen decided to focus on school for a bit. That didn't last.
Near the end of grade 11, Jake and Owen found themselves in another band, Black Market Metropolis, an industrial band with 3 other members, all over the age of 19, except Jake and Owen. Lots of pipe dreams and ideas came up, but in the end nothing more than five songs were ever even written. Jake called it quits for a few years, but Owen went on to another band, Only for Sustenance, in 2000. They recorded an LP titled "Syringe Dreams" with 15 ear-splitting songs, all under a minute in length.
In 2001 Jake and Owen went to Ottawa to visit friends and found Miller Vaults playing for an indie band, Speedball, at the Trillian. They talked to the band after the set and had a few drinks. A month later Miller left Ottawa, and consequentially Speedball, to go to Toronto to live with his Aunt. Owen and Miller happened to see one another at an exhibit at Gallery Arcturus in Toronto, and stayed in touch. Soon after, Miller moved in with Jake in Elora, and the three thought about starting yet another band.
Living across the street from Jake and Miller was Dexter Childe, an aspiring keyboardist. Hearing him play quite loudly through the walls of the house upon returning from the corner store, Jake knocked on the door and asked to speak with whoever was playing. After Rushing across the street, gathering Miller and Owen, and persuading them into the February cold, the three heard Dexter play in the Childe living room. In that moment they decided to make a band, and thus was born Baby1.
The name Baby1 was born alongside Drisden Bent, Miller Vaults' nephew. Miller and Jake were talking about the baby pre-birth and came upon the idea of a rocket-ship-esque capsule for a baby, and they named it Baby1.
They now all reside in Ottawa, Owen and Miller in the same apartment, Dexter in the same complex, and Jake just down the street in another apartment.
Aww, this looks so sad and empty.
